Sammy became a member of the Macungie Police Department in April 2008 after overwhelming support from the borough residents. Through several donations from both borough businesses and private citizens the K9 program was created.

Sammy is a Belgian Malinos (pronounced mal-a-wan) born in Holland. He began his career in Macungie when he was 15 months old. He and handler Corporal Mullen went through training and have been certified through the Eastern Police Canine Association.

It is important to remind residents and visitors that Sammy is not a typical domesticated dog. He will act to protect himself or Corporal Mullen. Sammy should NEVER be approached unless permission from Corporal Mullen has been given.

Supporters of Sammy have been collecting recipes for a "Heads & Tails" cookbook. The first in a series of cookbooks will be for appetizers and desserts. If you have a recipe you would like to contribute please submit your name as you want it to appear, your recipe and your phone number (to clarify an ingredient or direction..your phone number will not be published) on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper to;
